U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg paid tribute to commissioners attending this year's National conference of Commissioners of Uniform State Laws, praising them for their pro bono service and their contributions to the process of drafting state laws.
Justice Ginsburg noted that studies have demonstrated that states receive a return of $6.00 for every dollar spent on the uniform law drafting process. Legislatures benefit from well-drafted legislation which has been studied and considered by all interest groups and avoid the necessity of drafting law in complex areas on a state-by-state basis.
The group meets annually to consider drafts of uniform laws and "seeks uniformity in state law on all subjects where uniformity is desirable and practicable."
North Dakota's Commissioners attending include Owen Anderson, Jay Buringrud, Judge Gail Hagerty, David Hogue, Frank Jestrab, Rep. Lawrence R. Klemin, Rep. William Kretschmar, Sen. Tom Trenbeath, Michael Unhjem and Interim Law School Dean Candace Zierdt.

North Dakota enacted six uniform laws during the last legislative session.
